In this dispatch, I’m sharing some of my favorite images from 2024.
This past year has mainly been focused on developing a long term book project, American Sketches, with my mate and collaborator, Julie Winokur. We also produced stories on heat stress in Miami for the Smithsonian Magazine and a series of portraits and video interviews on youth voters in Georgia, and a great filmmaking commission for Arte Films on the history of Sugar.
Looking back at this past year, I’m struck by how much my practice and the profession of photojournalism has changed. Gone are the days of countless commissions and assignments, as the profession continues to shrink. This new reality has allowed me to continue what I’ve always done, which is to produce my own projects and propose new work to publications. I continue to have gratitude for the opportunities that I have to create new work of meaning and impact. This is the lifeblood of my existence.
