Photojournalists Explore Social Issues
A compilation of photo essays by world-renowned photojournalists hit bookshelves yesterday in David Elliot Cohen's new book What Matters. In Cohen's words, “Great photojournalism changed the world in the past, and it can do it again. I want people to see these images, get angry, and act on that anger.” Take a look at Ed Kashi's contribution to this visual representation of some of today's most problematic social concerns. Action time!

Thanks for mentioning What Matters on your blog, Ed. Your contribution to What Matters is one of the strongest and one I mention in every interview... and Curse of the Black Gold is a tour-de-force.
David, thank you for this kind comment and for producing What Matters. What you have done is something that few people are trying to do anymore with visual journalism. Thank you for this tremendous contribution to our profession and the world of ideas. Now to get people to listen, look and act!
I was able to take so much "home" from this post and the corresponding slideshow...Passionate journalism, striking images! Very nice.
I look forward to seeing "What Matters" in full!
Photography as a tool capable of effecting change is in itself a very beautiful thing! Thank you for sharing.
Cheers, Jeremy
