Sequel to The Sandwich Generation now on AARP website
In 2006 my wife, Julie Winokur, and I created a multimedia story called The Sandwich Generation. It was about our struggles with taking care of Julie's ailing father and our kids at the same time. It was originally commissioned by Brian Storm for MSNBC.COM and eventually also published on MediaStorm's website. Earlier this summer we were commissioned by AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) to produce a new story, one year later. Julie and I made this short film and it has just been released at the link that follows. I hope it provides inspiration, comfort and support for others going through similar circumstances and for those who are struggling with these kinds of decisions.

Living With Herbie

Hi Ed,
I just finished watching, very insightful and moving, I really enjoyed it.
Looking at my own grandparents, I sometimes forget how varied the process of aging can be and how blessed I am to have 4 healthy grandparents in my life.
It's clear that the past few years have been a real struggle for your family, but I think that in the end, it really was the best way for Herbie to finish out his years.
Family is one of the most important things in life and I have always thought that the way a person ends their life says a lot about how they lived it.
Anyhow, I thought the mini-doc was really well done and a great addition to the AARP website.
Hope all is well with you and your family.
